The Milk of Sorrow

In 2010, the Milk of Sorrow (Spanish: "La Teta Asustada" - The Frightened Teat) by Claudia Llosa, niece of the famous writer Mario Vargas Llosa (Nobel Prize in Literature 2010), was the first Peruvian film nominated for Oscars in Hollywood after winning the Golden Bear at the Berlin festival. Based on true events, this film tells the story of a young woman in times of terrorism in Peru. The title refers to the popular belief that the trauma of women who were raped during pregnancy transmitte the children through the breast milk.

Anaconda
adventure horror film

This famous adventure-horror film was directed in 1997 by Luis Llosa, cousin of Mario Vargas Llosa (Nobel Prize in Literature in 2010).

It centers on a film crew for National Geographic who have been taken hostage by a snake hunter who is going after the world's largest giant anaconda.

The Specialist

Luis Llosa also directed this film in 1994, starring Sharon Stone, Sylvester Stallone and James Woods. A mysterious woman hires an explosives expert and former CIA to kill the men who murdered their parents in childhood.

 

Llosa also directed Fire on the Amazon in 1993, an action film starring Craig Sheffer and Sandra Bullock and the film Sniper with Tom Berrenger and Billy Zane.

Animated 3-D films
3d film

Peru is the first country in Latin American producing feature-length animated 3D film. Since 2003, the Peruvian company Alpamayo Entertainment have realized several movies with planetary success as "Pirates in Callao", "Dragons: Fire destination" and especially "The Dolphin: Story of a Dreamer" in 2009, a cute movie based from the bestseller of the Peruvian writer Sergio Bambarén.
