Museo Santuarios Andinos

Calle La Merced 110, near plaza de armas.

The great attraction of this museum founded in 1997, is the famous mummy Juanita or Dama de Ampato, a 12-14 years girl, who was sacrificed in Inca times as an offering to the Apus (mountain gods). His body was discovered in 1995 to more than 6,000 m (20,000 ft) above sea level on the slopes of Mount Ampato near the Colca Canyon, following the eruption of the nearby volcano Sabancaya that melted part of the glacier. It is the well-preserved mummy in the world thanks to its freezing during five centuries, she was naturally mummified, without draining the viscera as is normally done for mummification.

The Monastery of Saint Catherine often described as a "city within a city", the most important religious building of Peru and a work of art in colonial architecture, exhibits archeological pieces and a substantial representation of religious art which includes a gallery with many pictures of the famous Cuzco School and artists from different countries.

The museum displays a large collection of pottery as well as prehispanic crafts and handicraft from Amazon jungle. It also exhibits religious art, colonial paintings and a library with manuscripts of the fifteenth century.

This amazing museum, specially built in 2002 to show the fabulous treasures of Sipan, exhibits more than 3,000 ceramics, 2,000 archaeological pieces in precious metal and the representation of the tombs.

Museo Arqueológico Brüning

Av. Huamachuco – Lambayeque (10 km north Chiclayo). Open 7 days a week from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm - Admission: S/. 8 - US$ 2 - 1.70 €

Here you can appreciate many potteries of different regional cultures and a room exhibits 500 works of art in gold, displaying Moche mastery of jewelry and metallurgy.

 

Museo Nacional de Sicán

Av. Batán Grande s/n, cdra. 9 - highway Pitipo / Ferreñafe. Open Tue/Sun - 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

The museum offers an overview of the town Sicán: domestic life, the ceramic manufacturing processes, displaying a replica of the tombs, among others.

One of the best museum in the city, here you can see numerous objects of the great Inca Empire and paintings from the famous Cuzco School.

Histórico Regional

Corner Garcilaso and Heladeros streets (plaza Regocijo). Open Mon/Tue from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm - Admission with the Boleto Turístico.

The Regional History Museum homes the house where the mestizo writer Garcilaso de la Vega was born. Visit this museum is like entering the colonial era to know the daily life of a mestizo. Many paintings, pre-Inca and colonial pieces, Inca textiles and historical documents are exhibited.

Here many ceramics and crafts are exhibited, including a large collection of dolls and masks.

 

Arte Contemporáneo

The municipality presents 280 works of national and international contemporary artists.

 

Museo de sitio Qoricancha

Located in the main square (plaza de armas), the Archaeological Museum is very interesting and not just for its many archaeological pieces of various civilizations such as Chavin, Moche, Wari and Recuay, but also for its room exhibiting the regional costumes and especially the garden that displays a hundred finely engraved rocks and typical plants of the region as the Puya Raimondi and the Qeuñal.

This very interesting museum in the city of Ica displays ceramics, textiles, wooden objects, the deformed or trepanned skulls and funerary bundles of the Paracas, Nazca, Wari, Ica, Chincha and Inca civilizations. It also has a colonial and republican room.

One of the most important architectural complexes of Lima, classified as World Heritage Site in 1988, the Basilica and Convent San Francisco was built and rebuilt several times, thus having various styles.

This is the first and one of the most important museum in the country, founded in 1822 in a beautiful colonial house. Very complete, exhibits pieces of all Hispanic cultures in chronological order, as well as the colonial and republican period.

This private museum is housed since 1926 in a colonial mansion of the eighteenth century with beautiful gardens. Some of the 45,000 objects of prehispanic cultures are regularly exposed in museums around the world. You can admire, in particular, an impressive collection of ceramics, one of the best collections of gold and silver and a room dedicated to the huacos erótico (erotic figurines).

Museo de Oro del Perú

Foundation created by the businessman Miguel Mujica Gallo, who took advantage of his business trips to collect numerous pieces, many of these belonged to famous people. His collection of gold, silver and bronze is stunning and the museum also exhibits a collection of weapons worldwide.

Museo de la Nación

Founded in 1988, it is one of the largest in the city. Dethroned by his competitor in Pueblo Libre, it is still a reference and place of many official receptions.

Nazca

Casa Museo Maria Reiche

30 km (19 mi) before Nazca, in the district of San José, we can find the house (now museum) of the German Maria Reiche known as "Princess of the Pampa", the woman who investigated, identified and protected petroglyphs (Nazca lines) for almost 60 years with her sister Renata. She died in 1998 at the age of 95 years and was buried in this house that exposes objects and pictures of their studies.

This important and interesting museum exhibits archaeological pieces from the Nazca civilization were found during excavations in the region. You can see textiles, ceramics, tools, "trophy skulls" and mummies.
